Spirituality

Spirituality is a measure of your people’s personal fulfillment when it comes to matters of faith and is one of the factors that plays into their Happiness. At first, simply constructing shrines will satisfy your people, but they will ultimately desire a Temple, where you can create your own religion based around ancient religious relics and artifacts.

Note that all Spirituality buildings have a gold upkeep, which must be maintained to keep them running and providing their bonuses.

The Temple

The Temple is the primary spiritual structure. Only one can be constructed per settlement, so it is ideally placed in a central position that encompasses as many villager shelters as possible. From the temple, you can assign which Relics are active.

Relics

Excavate ruins to discover new relics.

Relics are ancient objects that inspire reverence. Some were items once owned by historic individuals. Others are remnants from old legends, rumored to still carry a divine spark. Regardless of their origins, each relic features its own set of perks to bolster your town.

By collecting and combining these relics in your settlement’s temple, you will generate a religion for your people (if you dislike the name generated by your relic choices, you can always set a custom name!).

Relics come in many forms, bolstering everything from your people’s health, to the year’s harvests, and even the prowess of your soldiers.

Relics can be found by excavating ancient ruins. Your villagers will have to brave the wilderness in order to discover what remains inside. Be aware though: all this activity can also attract raiders!

Beside the ruins, relics can also sometimes be found sold by traveling merchants, and as rare loot from raiders.

Assigning Relics

Assign relics are the Temple to activate their benefits.

Once you have acquired some relics, you will need to assign them at your Temple in order to gain their properties. Every relic (with the exception of one!) has positive benefits, and each will provide a substantial spirituality bonus to your settlement.

The Temple supports one Relic per priest employed within it, up to 2 for a starting Temple, and 3 for the upgraded Temple.

Note that Relics can only be swapped out once every few months, so you will have to commit to your selection.
